“Headset Jazz” Host Honored By WCVE Public Radio

Left to right: Steve Clark and Bill Miller (WCVE Public Radio), Ty Bailey
Ty Bailey, longtime host of “Headset Jazz,” a popular local program that once aired on WCVE Public Radio, was presented with a plaque that commemorates his many years of service. Bill Miller, Vice President and General Manager of WCVE Public Radio, presented it to Mr. Bailey on October 19. Mr. Miller states: "We are proud to have been able to bring his talent and unique jazz presentation to this market."
“Headset Jazz” began in the 1970s on WRFK. When WRFK became WCVE Public Radio in 1988, “Headset Jazz” made the transition as well and continued into the 1990s.
Mr. Bailey was one of a series of hosts, but was the last one, as well as the longest serving.
Ty, I am so sorry I missed seeing you. I really enjoyed coming into your studio during the "good old days" talking about the music and wondering if jazz would survive in Richmond City. You so deserve any award given and I hope you know what a great service you did for the Capitol City with "Head-set Jazz." Stay in the groove, dude!

Ty,
Sorry I missed seeing you. "Headset Jazz" has a important place not only in my own memories and in the history of WRFK and WCVE, but also in the history of Richmond radio.
Thanks for the memories and music to Ty, Alice, Jeff, Guy, and a name that escapes me (sorry--I was young and forgetful then). I think it was the only show I haven't substituted for, although I do remember a Christmas party in the swamp when . . .
