“Out O’ the Blue Memorial Revue” Tribute to Page Wilson to air LIVE this Saturday at 8:00 PM

Some of Page’s friends and colleagues will gather this Saturday, March 26 at 8:00 pm in the WCVE studio, to swap some stories, play some tunes and celebrate the life of Page Wilson. WCVE Public Radio producers LuAnn Jones, Dan Rosenthal and Kevin Wiese, Page's music director Scott Fraley, “Out O’ the Blue” staffers Joe Sokohl and Kevin McGranahan, and Richmond area musicians Jimmy Bland, Susan Greenbaum, Janet Martin, Terry Garland and Reckless Abandon will perform live for this special “Out O’ the Blue Memorial Revue."
Please join us for this special program.
Many thanks to all involved with what we must assume was the last Out of the Blue Radio Review. The selections were excellent - almost as if Page chose them; the tone was perfect; the artists were those we have come to know and love because of Page Wilson. We could hear the tears and laughter shared in the studio matching those we've shed and shared since Page's passing. Page made an impact on our lives through the music he presented and his comments along the way.
I hope WCVE will make a copy of this progam available. And - though it can't be the same outside of Page's kitchen - I hope you will continue programming purebred American mongrel music.

Got notified about the Saturday broadcast by email. We had a big family dinner planned with all the kids and grandkids in attendance. First thing I told the whole crew was that come 8:00 I was heading for the "swamp" for Page's Memorial show. What a night! Fantastic set list! Please consider re-airing that and all of his shows from over the years so that everyone can continue to experience the magic that was Page. Just "do it and they will listen". Let us never forget him.
SO sorry to have to miss last night's show and would be very interested in listening to it if made available!
What an awesome night! I was so honored to be in the studio and witness such an astounding show! Joe, Scott, and Kevin, along with all of the station folks, thank you so much for a fantastic job.
Missed it! Will be looking forward to the archive. Artists involved, please check your egos (if need be) and let it be re-aired or archived for the rest of us. What a great idea to air a tribute to Page Wilson's work and life and for you folks to be involved. Now please let us hear it or hear it again!! Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed the tribute last night. I've put both the tributes (3/23/11 and 3/26/11) on CD, and will send you a copy if you want. Send me a note via email with your address, and I'll send you a copy - My address is: tjkassenATsylvaninfo.net (remove AT and replace with @ before sending)....
Thanks,

My heart has a hole that can't be filled.
My ears have a sound that can't be heard.
My tongue has a voice that has no words.
Goodbye Brother Page and Amen

AB-SO-LUTE-LY AWESOME show tonight, y'all! Page would have enjoyed it and would have loved to be a part of it (actually, he was present in spirit)! What a great tribute to a great guy and 'though my heart is still broken, this really picked me up. 'Made me wish for more, really.
Thank you so much for this, and I hope we can find a way to keep it alive because it has become such a Richmond institution. I still cannot imagine Saturday evenings without Page, and more particularly, the great music. It was a perfect slice of life that made everything seem okay for "what had gone down, and getting ready for what was 'comin''round"
Nice job, WCVE...thank you Reckless Abandon & guests...keep it real and alive, please!
Tonight was wonderful, a trip back to Richmond and the music oh! the music. I will hope someday to purchase a CD of tonights show and will look for a play list of other shows and a way to collect some of what Page and WCVE introduced me to over the past ten years. You can publish my e-mail address tomandjan1970@yahoo.com if anyone can tell me how to find this music please feel free to contact me. I'll also contribute to Ms. Blues collage fund.
Thanks WCVE for doing this. I think tonight's tribute show was terrific and I have to believe that Page Wilson would be overwhelmed to hear so many friends pay him the honor of gathering and singing music dear to him.
I'm really going to miss Out of the Blue Radio Revue, seeing Page and RA live and being introduced to local and national artists.
This music is so beautiful, affirming, and has provided me with a center of gravity in a life that can spin crazily sometimes.
I do hope that OOTBRR archives can be provided to its fans again, though I imagine it will be hard to bring that about. Still, fingers crossed.
Thanks WCVE (and to Steve Clark for his great show too), the artists and guests tonight, thanks to the sponsors who helped "keep our little boat afloat" and thanks for the community out there. I'm one of you and I feel your loss.
And, finally, peace and thanks to you Page Wilson.
I just finished listening to the wonderful tribute to Page Wilson. His show has been something that I looked forward to after discovering it many years ago. He will be missed!
Will there be an archived edition of the live tribute....or perhaps a podcast that will be accessible at a later date ?
Thanks
Harlan
Other than gathering hundreds of people to swim naked in the ocean down in Ocracoke the best tribute we could give Page is to keep the OUT OF THE BLUE RADIO REVIEW on the air.
Page's weekly shows were timeless - when a repeat aired, I thought the music and Page's commentary sounded just as "fresh" as it did when it aired weeks or even years before. I would love to be able to buy weeks or even years worth of his programs in some form - maybe podcasts? - so my wife and I could continue our tradition of listening to him each Sat night. My most special favorite programs were the couple of weeks in December each year when Page introduced us to a huge variety of Mongrel Christmas music. I really hope WCVE or someone can find a way to share the archives of years of wonderful Out of the Blue shows with Page's fans.
Please sell CDs of this special show and give the proceeds to charity. It sounds great!
I "discovered" Page Wilson in about 2004 when I stumbled across the Out of the Blue Radio Revue. I was in the midst of a life and career change, attending law school. So I was spending a lot of time studying my arse off. I would have the show on the background because it was pleasant and interesting music and made the work more tolerable.
Then he mentioned his CD "Bridge of Love," so I bought one on-line. I listened to that over and over again while I was studying for the bar exam. "Virginia" always makes me get misty - what an absolutely fantastic song. I don't know why the General Assembly doesn't make that the state song, with the whole controversy about "Carry me Back to Ol' Virginny."
My wife and I saw Page and the band play at Ashland Tea and Coffee house in 2005 and had a blast. We always kept saying we had to get out and see him again, but you know how it goes - the years roll by and you keep saying "hey, we should go see Page Wilson again." It was kind of comforting just knowing he was out there.
Then the other day I heard with shock and dismay that he had died.
I didn't know him, but I kind of felt like I did. It was obvious from his radio show, his live performance, and his recorded music that he was the real deal. He was a genuine, quality human being. My heart goes out to his daughter, his band mates and his many friends. I'm saddened at his too-soon passing.
Thanks for this show. It's a very moving tribute.
We came into it a half-hour late. It's an excellent program that we would love to hear again in its entirety. We'd be willing to buy a CD.
It would be great if this was placed in i-tunes. I have not heard any of his music played on the radio in many years. In the last few years the only times I have had the privilege of hearing my cousin sing was at family gatherings both happy and sad. It is great to hear him sing and excerpts from his shows that were special to him and his friends on the radio again. Thanks!
Thank you, guys, for doing this, because we in the community really need to say aloha to Page. No one can ever fill his mike and his space on this earth. He was a unique presence among us, filling the air with a form that was always spirit you could tangibly feel coming right through the speakers. Now he's pure spirit, unburdened by the weight of this place, free of its gravities and tensions. I was wondering whether or not this evening's tribute might not be put in CD form for purchase, the proceeds to be given to benefit Virginia Blue's education, or some such. After all those concerts Page assembled to help others, it's good to be able to experience one to assists him by way of the one who meant the most of all to him in this world. I'm sure his now fully unbridled spirit is helping the increasing sums of souls in need of his compassionate and eager energy. I have a feeling he sensed the need was getting so great, it would take some heavy lifting from the other side of things. And as usual, there he is, bringing it all together and--lifting away.

Husband & I have to be away from home (& radios) this evening. Will there be a repeat of this later in the week? I'm sure there are also people who have to work tonight.
It would really be great if there was a repeat date.
@Harriet: I'm sorry you'll be away from home during the concert (away from computers and smartphones, too? you can listen online)
As to a repeat - it will depend on a number of factors, including whether the quality of the recording is acceptable, whether the artists feel the performance was as good as it could be, etc. As it will be a live program, it can be hard to predict how things will turn out.
If we do re-broadcast the program, we will announce it on our website and on Facebook (and probably on the air as well).
