PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest 2013 Winners

The Community Idea Stations (WCVE PBS, WHTJ PBS), along with our Ready To Learn program, held its annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. Children in kindergarten through third grade were invited to enter the contest by illustrating and writing original stories. Local winners were selected in the spring of 2013 and each winner recorded their stories in front of a studio audience of friends and family.

Elementary Students Explore Mini-Economy

On Tuesday, 1,300 elementary school students will be at the Siegel Center to take part in the Mini-Market Economy Day.

Come join the fun with the Community Idea Stations, Science Matters and Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. From nature walks to outdoor investigations, families, friends, and neighbors are invited to participate in hands-on experiences that encourage kids to learn about science. The day will feature 40+ local organizations who specialize in outdoor activities for families. This community event is free and open to the public.

Ninety Student Actors, One Shakespeare Play

The English Speaking Union is sponsoring the 4th annual Bardathon today at Richmond CenterStage. Students from eight area high schools and one of from Russia are taking part.

Eat Smart for a Great Start!

This September, PBS KIDS makes it easy for families to stay healthy and active with PBS KIDS Eat Smart for a Great Start. Studies have shown that poor nutrition and lack of exercise can negatively impact children's academic performance. To help start the school year off right, PBS KIDS has developed themed television programming, online content, and partnerships with Allrecipes.com and Produce for Kids -- to provide kids and parents with resources that support health and physical activity.

PBS KIDS preschool destination cohost, Mr. Steve, will be at the Children's Museum of Richmond Central Location on Saturday, August 4th. He will be performing at 10:00 a.m., 12 noon, and 2:00 p.m. Each performance will be followed by a meet and greet session.

PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge takes off with The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That and the special “Creepy Crawley” week - July 30 through August 3. Sally and Nick, the program characters, will be learning about fireflies, snails, spiders, earthworms, and other creepy crawlers.
