The Richmond Folk Festival is Coming to Town October 12-14

Last year, more than 200,000 people visited downtown Richmond's riverfront to celebrate the roots, richness and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling and food. The Richmond Folk Festival has become one of Virginia’s largest and most-loved events of the year and has been voted as the best musical festival in Richmond, 2 years running. The 2012 Festival will bring a new and similarly amazing list of performers, artists and exhibitors.

Mr. Steve Returns to CMoR

PBS KIDS Destination co-host, Mr. Steve, will be at the Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Central location on Saturday, August 4, 2012. He will have performances at 10:00 a.m., 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. Each performance will be followed by a meet & greet session. The concerts are free with admission to the museum.

The Creative Arts Day Camp: For Aspiring Artists and Teachers

Searching for an engaging hands-on art experience for that young artist in the family? The Department of Art Education at VCUarts is offering the Creative Arts Day Camp for children rising into grades K-9. The aim of the summer art camp is to provide kids with a unique experience and the chance to explore various art media such as: digital art, sculpture, painting, clay, fibers, printmaking and drawing.

Voices of the Storm: Richmond 1862

The week of June 25th to July 1st, 1862 was momentous for the Confederacy and for the Richmond area in particular. In a series of engagements known as “The Seven Days Battles,” George MacClellan’s Army of the Potomac attempted to capture the Confederate capitol. That attempt was thwarted by General Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia in six bloody engagements that led to staggering losses on both sides and changed the course of the war.
