After a 23-year career as an investment banker on Wall Street, Lawton Fitt heads the Royal Academy of Arts in London.  She discusses the arts, charitable giving and her dramatic career change with host Charlie Sydnor.

Lawton Fitt, a graduate of the Darden School of Graduate Business Administration, is the head of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.  She is the first woman and the first American to have been appointed secretary in the Academy’s history.

Prior to joining the Academy, Ms. Fitt was an investment banker Goldman Sachs. She was named a partner in 1994. In October 1999, she was included in Fortune Magazine’s list of fifty most influential women in U.S. business. She is a trustee of the Darden School, and is vice-chairman on the Board of Trustees of PS1 Contemporary Art Centre which, in 2000, became an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.  She is also on the Board of Trustees of several arts institutions including the Jane Comfort Dance Company and Mabou Mines Theatre Company, New York and the Kunst-Werke Contemporary Art Centre, Berlin.  Ms. Fitt received the University of Virginia’s Women’s Center 2003 Distinguished Alumna Award.
