Since 1985, Dan Jordan has served as president of the nonprofit Thomas Jefferson Foundation which owns and operates Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. Jordan has received several state and national awards for contributions to historic preservation as well as the United States Department of the Interior’s Public Service Award, its highest award to a private citizen. In addition, he has served on numerous state and national boards. He chaired the Advisory Board of the National Park Service and the state board that oversees historic preservation in Virginia. The author of three books, Jordan is a native Mississippian, a graduate of the University of Mississippi and a former officer in the U.S. Army Infantry. He received his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Virginia, where he is now a Scholar in Residence. |
