Ambassador David Newsom is an expert on foreign relations involving the U.S. and developing nations. Ambassador Newsom was a professional Foreign Service officer and held posts in numerous countries, including Pakistan, Norway, Iraq, Britain, Libya, Indonesia, Iran and the Philippines. He also served as under secretary of state of political affairs and as assistant secretary of state for African affairs, and was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Libya, to Indonesia and to the Philippines. He is the author of several books on diplomacy and foreign policy. His most recent is The Imperial Mantle: United States, Decolonization, and the Third World.
