Retired Lt. Gen. Samuel V. Wilson

Retired Lt. Gen. Samuel V. Wilson is a renowned Soviet specialist who has served in every enlisted and commissioned rank in the United States Army during his 37-year career. Gen. Wilson helped write and implement the original United States counter-insurgency and counter-terror military doctrine.

A highly decorated combat veteran, Gen. Wilson has served as a CIA field case officer, Special Forces Group Commander, Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Army’s Special Warfare School, Deputy to the Director of Central Intelligence, Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and U.S. Defense Attaché/Moscow, USSR, among numerous other positions.

In 1992, Gen. Wilson became the 22nd president of Hampden-Sydney College and is now the College’s president emeritus and Wheat Professor of Leadership Studies.
