Steward School Announces Green Building
The Steward School in Henrico celebrated the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with the announcement of a new green building.
The Bryan Center for Science and Sustainability will open in September of next year:
Seward: There will be a lot of interior classrooms, labs and spaces, but it will be surrounded by outdoor classrooms, which will be as important.
Headmaster Ken Seward said kids K-12 are going to be involved from the time ground is broken.
Seward: Students will study how a green building is built, what it’s made out of, the kinds of systems within a green building that heat and cool it. They will make decisions about the operation of this building. We can imagine all of the opportunities that this building creates.
The building and programs it will offer are fully funded by John and Carter Bryan with one of the largest single cash gifts in the school’s history.
Seward: What I think this building will do is change the way we see the rest of the campus, the way we see our relationships and responsibilities in the world.
