Triple A to release poll on distracted driving today
This is National Distracted Driving Day, and Triple A is set to reveal poll results that could drive new legislation to keep people’s eyes on the road. Charles Fishburne reports.
Triple A says distracted driving has become the top danger behind the wheel.
Van Curen: 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near crashes involve driver inattention within 3 seconds of the crash.

Van Curen: It is Distracted Driving Awareness Day and the biggest thing we want to accomplish is to let people be aware of the fact that distracted driving is extremely dangerous.
The poll asked drivers what they consider to be dangerous distractions, and what needs to be done about it. Triple A is a powerful lobbying organization that has pushed legislation banning text messaging, getting cell phones and such out of the hands of beginning drivers, and the slow-down and move over law, among other things. The results of today’s poll on distracted driving will likely find its way into the hands of legislators, and possible new laws, next General Assembly session.
