Henrico High School student will not be charged in stabbing

In Henrico County, a 16-year old student who stabbed a 17-year old classmate with an X-Akto knife will not face charges in the incident, but the older youth will. Charles Fishburne reports.

Police say the younger student was acting in self-defense

Owens: It was discovered during the investigation, that the seventeen year old assaulted the sixteen year old first, by repeatedly punching him in the face breaking several facial bones.

Lt. Eric Owens, Henrico Police

Owens: It was also determined that the sixteen year old did not bring the X-Akto knife to school. The sixteen year old is not facing charges. Both individuals have been released from area hospitals and a petition was served on the seventeen year old after he recovered from his injuries.

School officials say neither student has returned to school, and in serious cases of this nature, there is an automatic recommendation of expulsion for both. The incident happened in a classroom April 13th at Henrico High School.
