A Crackdown on Seatbelt Use
Virginia had the highest recorded seat belt use rate in state history last year: 82.27 percent. State and local police will be out today looking to improve that percentage.

Molnar: State Police along with all the agencies that are along Route 60 between the West Virginia border and Virginia Beach will be participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign.
State Police Sgt. Tom Molnar says if you’re driving on Route 60 and you and your passengers aren’t hooked up, you can expect to be stopped.
Molnar: Currently the law in Virginia is that anybody that is occupying the front seat of a motor vehicle is required to wear a safety belt. Anyone under the age of 16, no matter which part of the vehicle that they are in, are required to wear a seat belt at all times. Any child under the age of 8 is to be restrained in some type of child safety device, be it a child safety seat or some type of booster seat.

Molnar: Coming up on the [inaudible] holiday weekend for Memorial Day State Police will have 75% of its workforce working. We want to stress the fact that safety belts do save lives.
