VCU Study Says Smart People Are More Symmetrical

A VCU study has identified a relationship between intelligence and body symmetry. Charles Fishburne reports.

They say if your right side matches your left side, you’re probably smarter than if you were…well, lopsided.

Banks: Fingers, toes, hands and feet…

George Banks and his colleagues are doctoral candidates at VCU’s School of Business and they were looking for ways to predict success in the workplace.

Banks: …The correlation between intelligence, or someone’s cognitive ability, and their body symmetry.

So he and his colleagues summarized the results of 14 cross-studies…1,871 subjects to be exact and they found…

Banks: …A relatively robust strong correlation between intelligence and body symmetry.

So, will they be measuring body parts for future job applicants?

Banks: (Laughing) Most likely not…

Banks is co-author of the study, “Smarter People are More Symmetrical.”
