Virginia’s Wallops Island Continues To Prosper
NASA says it has successfully launched another suborbital rocket from its flight facility at Wallops Island, and as Charles Fishburne reports, Virginia’s space business is booming there.
Wallops Island has been launching rockets for 65 years.
Koehler: We're looking good at Wallops.

Koehler: We're very busy, we're under a large construction project, almost 90 million dollars worth of construction projects going on.
The space business is good for communications and weather satellites, scientific experiments, even teaching the next generation of aerospace engineers.
Koehler: A lot of university students get some hands-on experience in learning how to develop experiments that will lead them into their careers in aerospace.
Yesterday’s launch was to test a new third-stage engine; the flight went without a hitch, and the payload splashed down in the Atlantic just as planned, and after 65 years and 16 thousand launches at the oldest continuous launch range in the United States, it was just routine.
