VSU Gets Kids to Eat Veggies
VSU has found a way to get kids to eat their vegetables.
The VSU Cooperative Extension Department gathered a couple of dozen children to harvest all kinds of vegetables at the university's Randolph Farm Agricultural Research and Teaching complex. Extension agent Wanda Johnson said the youngsters were picking everything from tomatoes to zucchini. The kids, she said, love digging in the dirt, filling watering cans and learning how to use what they're growing in all kinds of recipes, including the kid favorite--pizza. The harvested vegetables are taken to area homeless shelters.
