Triple A warns of possible three-dollar-a-gallon gasoline by Christmas
Triple A MidAtlantic says three dollar a gallon gasoline could come by Christmas across the country. Charles Fishburne reports.
It is already $3 a gallon in DC and 19 other states.
Van Curen: Nationally, three dollars a gallon is very likely; we're only pennies away.
AAA's Windy VanCuren says that's already the highest retail price we have seen in 780 days, and consumers have a particular disdain for the three-dollar level.
Van Curen: We're at a painful price point for motorists.
AAA says consumers spend less on gifts and travel and other purchases when they have to spend more on fuel, and they have less confidence in the economy.
Van Curen: You know, the last time that gas prices did spike like this, the recession did kick in.
She says the good news is, Virginia is the nation's 17th cheapest state to buy gasoline at $2.88 a gallon, and Richmond is even better at 2.85 on average.
