DMV central branch closed by burst pipe
It could be several days before the customer service center at the Division of Motor Vehicles main office in the 2300 block of West Broad reopens.
The office was forced to close yesterday when a water pipe burst.
Stokes: And, unfortunately, it caused major water damage in our customer service center.
DMV’s Melanie Stokes explained that countertop computers will have to be replaced and it's going to take some time to clean up.
Stokes: The customer service center representatives who normally worked at Richmond Central have been dispatched to nearby locations.
Meanwhile, computer glitches were reported at DMV offices in Roanoke and Hampton Roads. Some offices were unable to sign on, others experienced slow sign-on times.
Stokes: From what I understand, Norfolk, Widgen Road and Smithfield were down until about 2:30pm. The other offices that were impacted were only down for a few hours.
Stokes recommended checking online at dmvnow.org for updated information about all DMV branches.
