Scam targets catering businesses
A red flag is up from the Better Business Bureau in Central Virginia for caterers and restaurants.
The same scam was reported last year.
Gallagher: That's where a caterers was notified by a telephone relay service that's typically used by the hearing-impaired.
BBB’s Tom Gallagher explained that the caller wanted to place a large order for sandwiches.
Gallagher: What the scam is, they want to let you know that they want to make the big order, and then they give you a credit card number or they let you know that they want to pay for this thing in advance by credit card, but they want to send you more money so that you will cash it out and then send them the refund and then go ahead on and they'll be in there in the next couple of days to pick up the sandwiches.
Targets also include:
Gallagher: The automotive body business and repair, and then also in the florist industry, the scam always works the same way.
