Anonymous donor gives Virginia Opera $500,000 challenge grant

The Virginia Opera has been challenged.
Gus Stuhlreyer, the Opera’s CEO and General Director, explained that the challenge grant is the largest operating gift in Virginia Opera’s history.
Every new or increased donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $500 thousand, for a total value to the Opera company of a million dollars. The donor wants to remain anonymous.
Virginia Opera has a five and a half-million dollar annual budget and about a million dollars in debt.
