Virginia has moved up one spot to 11th in the nation in an annual study of child well-being.
Mr. Fisburne, I am the KIDS COUNT director at Voices for Virginia's Children. I would be happy to chat with you if you wish to do any followup to the story. The key point is that although Virginia's economy is recovering from the greatest recession since the Great Depression, the economic crisis continues to harm Virginia children and their families. Child poverty in Virginia varies by region and Virginia's children bear a disproportionate share of the recession's damaging effects, as the 2011 child poverty rate of 15.6 percent exceeded the overall state poverty rate of 12.0 percent. I would be happy to chat with you further if you would like. Ted Groves KIDS COUNT Director Voices for Virginia's Children 804-649-0184
