Pamela D'Angelo has an extensive background in journalism, including experience as a foreign correspondent in Kenya for The Dallas Morning News and The Washington Times and as Washington Desk Editor for United Press International. Pamela also has had writing and editing assignments for The Washington Post and other publications, as well as international press and environmental reporting fellowships in Africa. Pamela has a journalism degree from American University and teaches a journalism course at The University of Richmond.

Commission to Determine Menhaden Limits

Tighter catch limits on commercial harvests of menhaden on the East Coast will be determined on Wednesday by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission at a meeting in Boston. The fish, considered important to the ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay, is used as bait for crab and lobster and processed for Omega-3 oil dietary supplements. Federal and State Officials Pitch Limits on Menhaden Catches

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will hold public hearings in the Northern Neck this week on new ways it plans to manage the Atlantic Menhaden stocks to help increase the population. WCVe Northern Neck Correspondent Pamela D'Angelo reports.

Virginia’s Natural Heritage Program Celebrates 25 Years

Virginia’s Natural Heritage Program celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday with guided group hikes led by recreation and conservation staff and volunteers at preserves throughout the state. In the Northern Neck of Virginia, both Hickory Hollow and Hughlett Point Natural Preserves were saved from developers’ backhoes by citizens who knew the areas contained important and rare plant and animal species. Northern Neck Resilient After Irene

Five Northern Neck Post Offices May Close

Yesterday, the U.S. Postal Service announced a list of post offices across the country that may be closed. Five of 95 Virginia post offices being considered are in the rural Northern Neck of Virginia. The post offices under review are Merry Point, Morattico, Oldhams, Sandy Point, and Sharps.
