A Chanticleer Christmas, 2:00 p.m. - A Chanticleer Christmas is a celebration of the season as told through the glorious voices of Chanticleer, the 12-voice San Francisco-based men's choir. The program spans the globe and the centuries, from England in the 1300s to new arrangements of classical and contemporary carols.
The Messiah and the Montiverdi Vespers, 10:00 p.m. - Editions of Handel's Messiah such as the 1754 publication contained cuts and changes for ease of performance and time considerations. Rarer is the 1743 setting which debuted in London revealing a broader context of Handel's original vision. Join WCVE Public Radio's George Maida for an airing of the rare 1743 edition of Messiah performed by the Academy and Chorus of St. Martin in the Fields with Sir Neville Marriner. Following Messiah, you'll be treated to the stunning Montiverdi Vespers and the seasonal beauty of 18th century carols written by Esteban Salas.
