Vinyl in the Sky with Diamonds

On this first weekend of May... yes, there will be Beatles but not from that disc.  Its a surprise.  What isn’t a surprise to me is how great my snap, crinkle & pop platters (a.k.a. LP records) sound.  We have a saying in Croudeland.  Be good to your vinyl and it will be good to you. There is a decidedly English edge to this week’s assortment before we head back across the pond to the colonies.  Part of a sonic celebration--WCVE Public Radio turns 24 years old this Sunday.  And the Croude is now 27.  No word on how old the Cricket is.

So... static brushed and discwashed... ye olde platters from the 70’s sound so much cooler than the CDs.  In the mix from my personal collection... Gryphon, Fleetwood Mac, Tull, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Gentle Giant, a really cool out-of-print Dregs disc and a postlude with David Lee Roth/Steve Vai/Billy Sheehan.

Sure would be interested to learn the reason for "Croude" - as in crypt/vault, with pun on "Crowd".

Trish said she told you what a fan I was. I've been listening to your show for several years now, since I found it late one Saturday/early one Sunday. I like the shows around yours too. I look forward to going up to my study to listen to your show and do Sudoku and Kakoru.

My son Ben has a huge vinyl collection -- at least 5 times my old collection. One of my old albums is Dave Mason's It's Like You Never Left that I won from the college station at UVA my first year. And of course Traffic (Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, or John Barleycorn). You've got me reliving my first year in college.

I saw your playlist for May 5, Looks like great show! I'm hoping the Fleetwood Mac is with Bob Welch - one of my favorites is Hypnotized.

Everyone will have their additions -- early '70s calls to mind McKendree Spring and Captain Beyond (Sufficiently Breathless). Even some good Queen (I and II). One of my friends used to play a particular cut from Uriah Heep -- the end of the song consisted of singing the English Alphabet (like the US version but with Zed instead of Zee).

George, let's sum it up with Keep up the great shows! I'm sure you have a big following! I love the show -- thanks!
