Didn’t He Ramble...

Page Wilson, Virginia Blue and Steve Clark
I found this photo while digging around in my desk after Page Wilson died last week. It was taken in the early days of the broadcast of the “Out of the Blue Radio Revue.” From left to right in the photo are Page, his daughter Virginia Blue Wilson, and Steve Clark.
“In Memoriam Page Wilson: ‘Oh, Didn’t He Ramble’” was broadcast Saturday 3-19-11 on the Sound of Swing, and you’ll find the playlist there.
Hello Steve; you've done another piece of fine work in your tribute to Page Wilson. I don't always get a chance to listen to the S of S, but when I do it usually carries me to a place and feel "back in the day". The many times I've tuned in to Page Wilson's show helped bring back fond memories along with introducing music I had missed along the way. His "Virginia" theme always seemed to transport me back to the Blueridge and Appalachian Trail days. I've never felt more at home than when I was a-ramblin' (and sometimes in very fine company) along Virginia trails. Mr. Wilson's tune was usually accompanied in my mind's eye by thoughts of Cruise Control and the might wonder dog Woton, Daddy Long Legs and the many others there at home on the trail.
I raise up my thanks to Page Wilson. And thanks Steve for your good works.
Great to hear from you and to have a reminder of our peripatetic days. With your nautical background you might want to tune in to the Sound of Swing this weekend. We're going to sea! Anchors Away, Mister Berthrong.
Oct. 1999 I moved from Ohio to Richmond, looking for something famular I tuned into Public radio in time to hear Page Wilson and his signature "Virgina" and was hooked. I learned a lot about my new home, music and history. Burnt Taters and other local groups. Met Page one time but felt like he was an old friend. I've been gone five years but took CD's of Page, Taters and others along. I play them here in Wisconsin for folks who ask about Virigina and tell them what I learned about the nicest place and people I ever lived with and someday hope to return to.
I'll continue to tune-in on my computer (makes me feel like I'm close to home) and wish you all well.
Come on back, Tom! You'll always have a place here in Virginia. This Wednesday night (3-23) at seven o' clock, Peter Solomon is going repeat my Sound of Swing program from this past Saturday, a program dedicated to Page Wilson. I hope you'll tune in to our HD1 signal online at ideastations.org/radio.
All the best!
Thank You I will tune in, and now I'll follow the sound of swing. We have a little local FM station up here and I have played Page for them and they agree his "Virigina" is right up there with Georga and Sweet Homw Alabama. "Born in NY-learned to live in Richmond"
