Road Trip Summer Playlist

Roll down the window and stick your hand out like you’re flying a plane, because I want to bring you my summer road trip playlist that’s the alternative to what you may have plugged into your cassette deck over the past years. I love road trips and one of the best parts about taking them, besides the pit stops at some dive-diners and oddly named historical-themed road markers, is the music I get to play. In the past, my soundtrack has consisted of music from a certain era or genre (hello high school/college playlist).
So, on this week’s show (6/11), I wanted to share a new type of soundtrack that maybe you can use as an alternative. You’ll hear music from David Byrne, with some music off what was his first, self-titled CD. I’ll play some Bob Marley early music, from a live in-studio concert he gave for a radio station back in 1973.
Plus, in the first hour, you’ll want to be sure to check the two tracks I’ll feature from Pepe & the Bottle Blondes who play a sort of old style dinner theater rumba music. And, recently I’ve been getting into some acoustic
Arabian music, which is great to hear in the car. So, you’ll hear music from Les Orientales and Rasha.
Be sure to also stick around for Morcheeba and The Specials, too. Plus, you’ll want to stick around for the French music from Lo-Jo, and the two songs I’ll play off their “Au Caberet Savage” CD. I’ll even throw in some great Spanish guitar music from the Gypsy Kings.
All in all, it’s going to be another fun show, and if you’re in your car or listening at home, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this weeks foray into a summer world music playlist. The World Music Show airs on Saturday nights at 10:00 p.m. on WCVE Public Radio. You can follow me on Twitter at: @wcveworldmusic. During the show, I offer tidbits and background on the music and artists I’m playing.
I just got my music I ordered from your playlist through Amazon last week; “Putumayo: One World, Many Cultures”, “Talking Heads: 12X12 Original Remixes” & “Six Degrees: Six Degrees 100”. They are great! I would highly recommend them! I can’t stop playing them. I look forward to listening to many more great music suggestions from your show. Oh and I am going to check out the Luaka Bop label you suggested last week too.
I'm so glad you got all that great music--and thanks for helping out the station too. Enjoy that music.
