The Cat In The Hat will be at the Children’s Museum of Richmond-Chesterfield location on Saturday, November 10th from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be special Cat In The Hat appearances, a story time, and activities throughout the day. The museum is located at 6629 Lake Harbour Drive, Midlothian, VA 23112.

Eat Smart for a Great Start!

This September, PBS KIDS makes it easy for families to stay healthy and active with PBS KIDS Eat Smart for a Great Start. Studies have shown that poor nutrition and lack of exercise can negatively impact children's academic performance. To help start the school year off right, PBS KIDS has developed themed television programming, online content, and partnerships with Allrecipes.com and Produce for Kids -- to provide kids and parents with resources that support health and physical activity.

PBS KIDS preschool destination cohost, Mr. Steve, will be at the Children's Museum of Richmond Central Location on Saturday, August 4th. He will be performing at 10:00 a.m., 12 noon, and 2:00 p.m. Each performance will be followed by a meet and greet session.

PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge takes off with The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That and the special “Creepy Crawley” week - July 30 through August 3. Sally and Nick, the program characters, will be learning about fireflies, snails, spiders, earthworms, and other creepy crawlers.

The PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge is now in week seven. This week, the special programming will feature Dinosaur Train. “Gone Fishing Week” will kick off on July 16 and feature the following episodes:

Summertime is really getting hot, but it is also time for some cool fun with the PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge. During the week of July 9-13, special programming will feature The Electric Company and it’s new Prankster Planet!

The PBS KIDS Summer Reading Initiative is now in its fifth week. The tips for promoting literacy with young children have been stupendous! The ideas shared this past week include creative car trip games, crafty activities, grocery store and restaurant reading ideas, activities for your home base, and book club fun.

The Reading Fun Has Begun!

It is not too late to join the PBS KIDS iVillage Summer Reading Challenge.  Once you have registered online, you will receive a daily email with fun, literacy-building tips and activities to keep your child learning all summer long.  There are challenges for the pre-reader (ages 2-5) and for the early reader (ages 6-9).  If you have not had a chance to register, do it now!  Then, let the fun begin!!
