Bonsai is
Japanese for tray planting. As a result, ideal containers
for bonsai are shallow pots or trays.
Bonsai is
the art of dwarfing trees or plants and developing them into an aesthetically
appealing shape by growing, pruning and training them in containers according
to prescribed techniques.
Almost any
woody plant can be used in bonsai. However, pine, juniper and maple are
probably the most commonly used.
During the
growing season, frequent watering is required because of their dwarfed
root systems.
Classes
are frequently conducted by the Richmond Bonsai Society, richmond_bonsai@hotmail.com
