Keep the bedding in your worm bin about as wet as a wrung out sponge - moist but not soggy.
A good rule of thumb for the amount of vegetable scraps to feed your worms: approximately a pound a week per square foot of surface area in the bin.
Will you be gone for more than a couple of weeks? Before leaving, feed your worms their favorite MRE (meal ready to eat) - a can of baked beans (vegetarian, please).
Keep your worm bin some place you pass by frequently so that you won’t forget about them.
Worms eat more and produce more compost if they are kept where the temperature is between about 60 and 85 degrees F.

Hill Top is a pick-your-own blackberry farm and winery.
They make over a dozen “true to the fruit” wines on site.
A “true to the fruit” wine means that the fruits are not mixed with grape or apple wines.
Meads, pyment, and cyser are also available at Hill Top. These are some of the world’s oldest alcoholic drinks, dating back to the Middle Ages. They are made with blends of honey. |
