Growing and Maintaining Boxwoods
Guest: Naz Amatucci–Virginia Boxwood Company
1.800.362.8424
Virginia Boxwood Company charges new clients to restore neglected boxwood, then once the plants are healthy, the company will trade regular care of mulching, feeding and treating pests for the clippings.
Boxwoods prefer a partially shaded location, but will grow in full sun.
They prefer a neutral soil pH near 6.5 or 7.0 and benefit from application of dolomitic limestone.
To prevent winter bronzing, plant boxwood in protected locations out of direct winter winds.
Thin out older branches to allow light to penetrate into the plant.
A great source of information on boxwood is “The Boxwood Handbook,” published by the American Boxwood Society.

Orchids are one of the most widely grown plants in the world and one of the easiest to grow.
Dendrobiums are unique in that the are able to grow without soil and can be grown hanging in small baskets.
Be sure to water orchids early in the day to reduce the chances of fungal problems.
There are many different types of orchids. You can consult with the Virginia Orchid Society to determine the type best suited for your location. |
