To reduce
pain or discomfort when gardening, vary activities, motions and tasks.
Take frequent breaks and use ergonomically designed tools.
Gloves will
not only protect hands against the cold, they will also cushion them against
tools.
Tool handles
can be widened to a more comfortable diameter by adding foam tubing.
If you must
squat in the garden, keep your feet flat. Lifting heels off the ground
could damage ligaments in the knee.
Raised beds
reduce the need for bending. Adjust the height to your needs and keep
the width narrow enough to avoid stretching.
Virginia
Nursery and Landscape Association (VNLA) Plant Introduction Program
Guests: John Wise
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
The VA Plant
Introduction Program is a partnership of Industry, University and Botanical
Gardens who strive to bring new plants to Virginia landscapes.
The VNLA
is constantly evaluating new and unusual plants for introduction into
the nursery industry.
Each year
hundreds of rooted cuttings are provided to nurseries by the VNLA to be
propagated and eventually introduced into the nursery industry.
A Plant
Promotion Advertising campaign brings Virginia evaluated plants to the
market.
New scientific
technologies are being used to create exciting plants for the future. |
