WILDER: An American First – Press
This inspirational documentary traces the moving and turbulent path of L. Douglas Wilder, a grandson of slaves, from segregated Richmond, Virginia, onto the national political stage as America’s first elected African-American governor. The one-hour program is narrated by actor Blair Underwood and features “Bill” Cosby, Mary Frances Berry, and archival interviews with Jesse Jackson and Rosa Parks, among others. The winner of three Telly awards and a Communicator Award of Excellence, this compelling historical biography looks closely at Wilder’s early years, and his rise to national prominence. WILDER: An American First was produced by WHTJ Charlottesville PBS in collaboration with the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
